Two of our senior debaters, Shakked Noy and Jack Comer-Hudson, have been selected for the Wellington regional debating team as a result of doing well in last weekend’s Russell McVeagh debating competition. Shakked was named best speaker of the competition. Congratulations to them both

WHS Physicists Success
At the national finals of the New Zealand Young Physicists’ Tournament, held in in Wellington on 21st March, a very strong Wellington High team won silver medals. Shakked Noy (captain), Jack Tregidga and Tess Breitenmoser were outstanding, winning the regionals against arch-rivals Onslow only to be beaten by the same Onslow team in the final. […]
Congratulations to the staff, parents and others team (Welly High Warriors) who got bronze in their division and won the team chant at the Wellington Dragon Boating Festival over the weekend. Also well done to the student team who made it to the finals of their division. A fantastic weekend all round.
Young Physicists on Top Again
Congratulations to the Wellington High School physics teams who came 1st (WHS A Team) and 3rd (WHS B Team) at the New Zealand Young Physicist’s Tournament regional competition last weekend.
Last week WHS Student, Jean Donaldson, attended a networking event with the winners of the Absolutely Positively Wellington Student Award (which Jean received in 2014), to meet with Mayor Celia Wade-Brown and other Council representatives. The representatives were “blown away by the students hard work, kindness and dedication to their community”.
Captain Scores Century
Andrew Bennett, captain of our 1st eleven, scored 106 runs in a 267 to 183 win over Onslow College. Congratulations Andrew!
AWD Athletics Success
Several Base 1 students competed in the AWD Athletics last week. We are particularly proud of two of them, James Martin (shot put) and Ella Smith (100m), who have qualified for the College Sport Wellington Regional Athletics Champs on 18th March.
During Week 4 our year 12 Geographers spent 4 days exploring volcanic processes, climate and variations in vegetation in the Tongariro National Park. During this time they conquered the Tongariro Crossing and become experts on this area for the end of year exam.
Josh Stewart earns Supreme Award
Congratulations to WHS Year 11 student, Josh Stewart, who has earned the Chief Scout’s Award, the supreme award in Scouting for outstanding achievement. Josh earned this award with 24 weeks of helping with Cubs, community service with cleanups and plantings in the Owhiro Stream, academic achievement with a win at the NIWA Science fair and […]
