Music News
June is a busy month for music with Manawatu Jazz Festival, Chamber Music, Big Sing and Rock Quest. During Kings Birthday weekend the WHS Big Band and 3 Combos attended the Manawatu Jazz Festival. The bands came away with 3 awards, Innovation award for the Big Band, Adjudicators Commendation for “Warehouse Stationery” combo, and “Most outstanding Musician” went to Evie Patterson!
Wellington Chamber Music Competition was on the following weekend with a number of students playing in ensembles. Evie Patterson won an award for her original composition in the Trio “Peas in a Pod” , and she was also a part of “Virtuoso Septet” who won best performance of a NZ work, and the overall winner of the Wellington District.
On wed 4th June the WHS Choir attended the Big Sing at MFC. This is our second time attending this event. The 60 strong choir performed a bracket of 3 pieces, Singing in Te Reo, English and Ukranian! Much thanks to Whaea Tilly for teaching us a beautiful Waiata and accompanying us on guitar. We wish our 5 Rock Bands all the very best of luck for this weekend at Rock Quest!!!
