Medical Absences

If your student is away sick from school for 3 days or more, please note that our attendance policy means we will need a medical certificate for the absence to be marked as “away for medical reasons”.

If this presents a problem for you, please contact your student’s Year Level Dean or our attendance officer on absences@whs.school.nz, as soon as possible.

GrowingNZ Innovation Challenge

WHS students were quick to take up the challenge of the GrowingNZ Innovation Challenge at The Royal Society of New Zealand recently
The first four students to respond to the offer to join a wellington high technology team spent an exciting and exhilarating day with agricultural scientists, food researchers, and hard working local farmers.
Our students showcased a wide range of research, creative and presentation skills, competing against 20 other teams of Year 10s students from schools throughout the Wellington Region.
The students (Emma, Ella, Frida and Isobel) were highly commended by the Bioscientist and Food Technologists for their inspirational product development and detailed planning process in the creation of new food sources for New Zealand Horticulture.
The future of work is becoming increasingly more difficult to accurately predict or even imagine. Determining and focusing on the types of skills and knowledge young people need from educators is more important than ever. What is clear is that it will not be the same skills that have served us during the last century or even the last decade.
GrowingNZ young enterprise programmes use a combination of teachers, students and scientists, farmers and plant growers to give students a real-world and relevant educational experience.
