Important Information
New Zealand Traveller Declaration
Going overseas for the school holidays? Everyone travelling into New Zealand must complete a New Zealand Traveller Declaration, including returning New Zealand passport holders. Its FREE and you can do it on the online form or on the NZTD app.
If you’re travelling as a family or group and completing multiple declarations, the NZTD app allows you to copy your travel details into another declaration, making it easier to complete multiple declarations for the same journey. The submitted declarations are then all easy to see within the app.
The New Zealand Traveller Declaration collects travel, customs, immigration and biosecurity information and aims to improve the safety and security of New Zealand. It replaces the paper card you used to fill out on the plane. To make your arrival easier, do your digital declaration before your flight back to New Zealand. Head to travellerdeclaration.govt.nz today!
Note: If students are going overseas during the holiday period and would like the geolock lifted then they need to email admin@whs.school.nz with the dates they are away from NZ for it to be lifted.

He Kākano Camp – Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey – Bronze Award
He Kākano had a great time on an overnight camp this week. For their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, they have spent the last term planning and preparing for their Adventurous Journey. They spent two days in Kāpiti, visiting the Southward Car Museum, Queen Elizabeth Park, Ngā Manu Nature Reserve and staying overnight in a lodge. It was a first for some, who had never been on a camp with peers and stayed away from home. Ka Pai to everyone!
Waka Ama – back on the water!
The weather had improved for a short time for us to get back onto the water, our waka ama whānau still keen to do some races against each other. Students enjoyed being out on the water under the watchful eye of Matua Whakamarurangi who is also doing a slow hand over to Whaea Char and Whaea Nat. Ngā mihi
Improv Slam is a sell-out success!
Wellington High Improv Club brought the house down over the course of three sold-out nights, at the first ever Improvisation Slam at BATS Theatre.
Three WHS teams performed with infectious energy, fearless creativity, and plenty of laughter, with ‘Copyright Infringement’ claiming a well-deserved second place in the Grand Final!
The event, which pitted school improv teams (from WHS, Newlands College and Wellington Girls College) against one another in a friendly tournament of spontaneous storytelling and quick thinking, was met with huge enthusiasm from audiences and participants alike.
This was our first run at what will inevitably become a legacy event, one that celebrates collaboration, confidence, and the joy of live performance. A massive thank-you to the students, Tate and Tama, and whanau supporters who helped make the debut Slam such a success.
Watch this space, the next one promises to be even bigger!
Te Kura Summer School
Te Kura Summer School is a short term online learning programme where students can gain up to 12 Level 2 or 3 credits. Courses start on 16 December and run through to 16 February. Summer school is designed as self directed online learning courses, so students are responsible for managing their own learning and it is free.
Students can register by themselves and do not need school approval. We do ask that you send an email to Sharon Henry at hys@whs.school.nz and to let us know that you have signed up so that we can keep an eye out for your results, as the school is responsible for uploading them to NZQA in February.
More information and the link to register can be found on the Te Kura website
