What’s Happening?

Hāngi in the Foods Room

Bob and Juliet have been team-teaching our year 11 Hospitality classes over the last few weeks. We have weaved harakeke to make kono, foraging rongoā around the school grounds to line the kono then prepping root vegetables and chicken.

Bob simulated a Hāngi pit in big pots this week with rocks and mānuka smoke. We shared our Hāngi as a class and watched Temuera Morrison’s new show ‘Earth Oven’ which was rather timely with our mini Hāngi project. I asked my students what parts they enjoyed most and the feedback was foraging and eating of course!

Bob was inspired to do this project during a wānanga he attended by Joe McCloud the ‘godfather’ of Māori chefs.

WHS Alumni Daniel Nodder steals the stage!

Not just any clown, Daniel Nodder has perfected the art of bringing exaggerated physical comedy to the stage.  Having recently taken the stage on WOW as a street sweeper, his performance in his co-created production ‘Crush the Bug’ will premier at BATS Theatre this month (Nov 18-22).  Read more about Daniel’s impressive training and performances here.

Sean Burnett Dugdale-Martin, left, and Daniel Nodder have created “Crush the Bug” which opens at BATS Theatre on November 18.
