Parent Evenings
Parents’ Evenings for Years 11-13 will be taking place on Monday 19 May from 2.00-6.00pm. School will finish at 1.20pm on that day for all students.
You will receive your student’s report on Monday 12 May. On Monday 12 May we will open the booking system so you can make appointments to meet with your student’s teachers.
When booking, we ask that priority is given to learners in whose reports teachers have requested a meeting. Therefore, if you would like to book a meeting, but one has not been requested, please do not book for your student until Wednesday 14 May.

What’s Happening?
Nepal trip
With 20 students, 8 porters, 7 parents, 3 guides, 2 teachers, countless cups of masala chai, and 4,100 meters of altitude, this years Nepal trip saw one of the biggest WHS groups ascend to Annapurna Base Camp. Blessed by clear weather and stunning views of some of the world’s tallest mountains. Our students were incredible, forming good relationships with their guides and porters and the people we met along the way. A huge thank you on behalf of the entire group to Bharat Pancha and to Expansion Dahal (the leader of the local guides) for this unforgettable experience.
Rescheduled – Tohu o te Rangi
Tohu o te rangi
Opening event: 5:30pm Tuesday 13th May
Exhibition runs through 16th May
After the weather disruptions of last week, The Engine Room warmly invites you to join us next Tuesday to celebrate the exhibition Tohu o te rangi.
This exhibition celebrates the work of over twenty artists and members of the Wellington Art Teacher’s association. As the title suggests, the ethos behind this exhibition project is open, expansive and a forum to bring this group of artists together. Very simply translated to the phrase “signs from the sky”, Tohu o te rangi refers specifically to the architectural space defined by The Engine Room gallery and its trademark “skylight” ceiling. This feature of the gallery connects all of the gallery’s programme to the expanse of the sky above and a similarly expansive opportunity for artistic expression.
Together for Te Taiao
Enviroschools is putting on an event for ākonga / taiohi / students at Zealandia on 24 June.
If your rangatahi would like to attend, they will need to register by 6 June (see below), and you need to let the school know that they’ll be absent all day so that we can record their attendance appropriately.
Recycling and composting system
As mentioned in a previous Wrap Up in Term 1, we introduced a recycling and composting system across the whole school at the start of this year. This includes over 100 bin stations throughout school: in classrooms, open areas, the canteen and popular hangout spots. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Wellington City council for donating about 40 compost bins, Bunnings Lyall Bay for providing nearly 50 compost caddies, and nearly 30 square storage bins we use as recycling bins that add to a comprehensive rubbish collection.
Recycling may look slightly different at home than at school, especially in regard to paper, but we encourage students and staff to reduce what goes to landfill by using the right bins for their waste.
A huge thank you also to one of our year 11 students Musette Mielke who helped with the design of the posters late last year.
Sport
We’re kicking things off with Winter sports this week at Wellington High. We are looking forward to seeing our students skills, teamwork, and school spirit in action throughout the season. Best of luck to all our teams—let’s make it a great season ahead!
Don’t forget to check the Wellington High Sports website regularly for draws, game times, and results—it’s the best way to stay up to date and support our teams!
Under Water Hockey
We kicked off the season at the pool on Tuesday night with underwater hockey! Three WHS teams took to the water. The Senior Open team had a great start, winning both of their matches. Unfortunately, the Senior Girls Yellow team had to default due to low numbers, but the Senior Girls Green team still played a solid game, helping keep the Alexander Shield in WHS hands. Next week, we’re aiming to claim the Senior Open shield and hold onto the Senior Girls shield. Best of luck to the junior teams playing on Friday!
Hockey
Girls Hockey 2XI lost to Kapiti 1-nil. Girls Hockey 1XI lost 2-nil to Aotea College and our Boys Hockey team beat WC 4-Nil.
Football
A great week of football was had. The girls’ football 1st XI played against the WHS 2nd XI and won 9 – 0
Badminton
Our Junior Badminton teams played their first games on Thursday afternoon—well done to all involved. Good luck to our Senior teams playing tonight!

Workshop – Online harm
In light of the recent topical conversations on online harm for children, we have organised a workshop available to all schools and parents in Wellington.
Clyde Quay School will be hosting Jo Robertson, New Zealand’s leading researcher on online harm, who is also a relatable and entertaining TEDx speaker! She will lead an evening providing parents (of kids 4-13+) with practical strategies to keep their children safe, all evidence based and easy to implement on 22 May.
