Te Whānau a Taraika

Te Whānau a Taraika

He whakamārama / What is the purpose of the whānau group?

The voice of Māori, both taiohi (young people) and their whānau, is essential in shaping an education system that will cater to the needs and aspirations of Māori. Mā tātou anō tātou e kōrero; we will speak for ourselves.

As the pou, or gathering point, for Māori at this school, the whānau group is a place of:

  • whakawhanaungatanga, connecting with other whānau, supporting each other
  • sharing our aspirations, expectations and concerns for the education of our taiohi to support all taiohi Māori and whānau at the school
  • living tino rangatiratanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Māori means all whānau Māori, all taiohi Māori at the school. Whether you speak te reo Māori or not, whether you know your pepeha or not, nau mai haere mai.
