Te Whānau a Taraika

Te Whānau a Taraika

Te Whānau a Taraika is the pou, or gathering point, for Māori at this school.

Our whānau group is a place of:

  • whakawhanaungatanga, connecting with other whānau, supporting each other
  • sharing our aspirations, expectations and concerns for the education of our taiohi (young people) to support all taiohi Māori and whānau at the school
  • living tino rangatiratanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi

He whakamārama / What is the purpose of the whānau group?

Mā tātou anō tātou e kōrero; we will speak for ourselves.

The voice of Māori, both taiohi and their whānau, is essential in shaping an education system that will cater to the needs and aspirations of Māori. Māori means all whānau Māori, all taiohi Māori at the school.

Whether you speak te reo Māori or not, whether you know your pepeha or not, please come and connect with our roopu at an upcoming hui,  nau mai haere mai.
