LEARNING SUPPORT

Reader/Writers Wanted

We are calling for volunteers to be Reader/Writers for our Junior students with Special Assessment Conditions in their practice exams. This year we have over 60 students with Special Assessment Conditions.

The exams are being held from Thursday 16 November from 9.30am & Friday 17 November from 9am- 1pm.

If you would like to help our students achieve their full potential by being a Reader/Writer, please email tash.stuart@whs.school.nz by 10 November. Volunteers will be required to undergo a Police Check.  Guidelines around being a Reader/Writer can be arranged if required

If you wish to volunteer on a regular basis to be a Reader/Writer for internal assessments, we would also love to hear from you.

Past pupil Adrian Gordon is a member of the Special Olympics Team for the National Summer Games 2017

SCIENCE

Year 10 Kelly students got down to some serious surgery this week as they dissected hearts and lungs (a little sheepishly if ewe know what I mean).

FILM MAKING

Success for WHS film-makers:

The film Exspiravit (winner of the inaugural Year 10 film festival) has gone on to win the overall prize at an international horror film competition, ‘Bloodfest’. This was announced at a screening in Sydney on Thursday evening.
This is a huge achievement for these students. In addition to prize money, they will receive online mentoring sessions with professionals from the industry. Congratulations to director and editor Finn Culver, lead actor and screenplay writer Nova Waretini-Hewison, and supporting actors Ella McGovern, Bianca Coulter, Eden Kettles and Aubrey Tansey.
We would also like to congratulate and thank all of the other students involved in the Year 10 film festival. Many films were of an incredibly high standard. We look forward to more great films in next year’s festival!
