Week 5 saw all seniors involved in internal exams and so the school had a very industrious vibe all week.  We are halfway through the term already and there are some dates that you need to be aware of:

28 August SCHOOL CLOSED for Mid-Term Break
 31 August –  4 September Tournament Week
 16 September Learning Conversations
 19 September Senior Ball
21 – 24 September National Manu Kōrero Competition

There has been a lot happening in sport around the school.  In particular, our Senior A netball have done exceptionally well.  You can read more about their final here.  Weightlifting, badminton, small bore rifle and Get2Go challenge are included in this weekly wrap up below.

WHS Weightlifting

Round 5 of the NZ Interschools Weightlifting Championships were recently held and Wellington High School are currently sitting in 6th place overall out of 40 schools, with 6 lifters competing.
At the moment we have Ben Roberts in 2nd place in the 62kg class, Milo Wilcock is also in 2nd place in the 69kg class, Aneurin Hunt is in 3rd place in 77 kg class and Josh Stewart is in 3rd place in the 85kg class.
Congratulations and well done to all the lifters.  Good Luck for the next round which is in late August.

Smallbore Rifle Shooting

Congratulations to Tyler Green who has been selected to to shoot in the Secondary Schools Smallbore Rifle Shooting event on Sunday 30 August at the Rifle Range in Newton.

He shot a 97.05 out of 100.10 in last weekends trials

Good Luck for this weekend Tyler!

Get2Go Challenge

A group of junior students also went to the Get2Go Challenge, held on Thursday.  Now in its 10th year, the Get2Go Challenge comprises a series of fun and exciting regional events, culminating in a Grand Final for qualifying participants. It is like the Amazing Race, Treasure Island and Survivor, mixed together with adventure sports including rock climbing, orienteering, kayaking, mountain biking and a little bit of problem solving.    Hillary Outdoors  will be posting photos of this event soon here.

Badminton has been very popular this year with 14 teams playing.  The Girls Senior A played Tawa College last weekend and came second.  With this developing squad and so much interest, badminton needs some help next year!  If you are keen to find out more, contact Caroline Lewis on caroline.lewis@whs.school.nz.
