In October, 4 students from Royal 2 chose to research issues relating to homelessness in our community, | The girls make their gift |
and they then implemented a social action that would address some of these issues.
The girls collected money from the Island Bay community one Saturday and chose to donate the resulting amount of $135.90 to the Suzanne Aubert Compassion Centre down the road from school, on Tory St. The staff at the Centre, managed by Philippa Meachen, gratefully received the funds which were designated for the purchase of new dessert plates. The students were given a tour of the facility and learned more about the work of the centre.
The girls found this to be a very rewarding experience and gained a broader idea about the complex issues faced by some of our community members.
