Xiaowen Yu Year 13 Xiaowen gained Scholarship in Chinese when she was in Year 12  | Xiaowen | and is sitting four scholarship subjects this year. She has been in the badminton team since Year 9 and is captain of the winning A grade team. Xiaowen is a Peer Supporter, has completed leadership training and was selected for the Genesi s national science & technology research forum. She studies Chinese extramurally through Massey University. She was a student representative on NZQA’s review panel, and took part in the selection panel which chose two deputy principals. Xiaowen says; “At the time I was looking at going to secondary school Wellington High was my first choice and it still is.”
Jack Buchanan Year 10  | Jack | Jack plays rugby, (captains the U65kg team), and cricket. He loves drama and has been in the Shakespeare Society and New Zealand Sheilah Winn Shakespeare performances where he was awarded most promising actor. He is active in theatresports, and was part of the selection panel that chose new deputy principals. His favourite subject is drama, and he is working at Year 11 in maths. Jack says; “Wellington High School is very interesting and way up to date with its policies and ideas.” Te Ataahia Hurihanganui Year 12  | Ta Ataahia | Te Ataahia is involved in music and was awarded best singer at the school’s section at the Tauranga Jazz Festival. She is going to Sydney on the school music trip, is active in drama, the Shakespeare Society, hockey, volleyball and dragon-boating. Te Ataahia is going to Costa Rica on an AFS exchange. She has participated in the Mana Wahine Women’s Affairs hui and WCC youth forums. Te Ataahia says; “Wellington High School is a close-knit community with a tuakana-teina feel between the seniors and juniors. Being on the Peer Mediation team has been so worthwhile.” Anthony Young Year 9  | Anthony |
Anthony loves his roopu class. He does Stage Challenge, he is going on the Sydney music festival trip and he plays badminton and tennis. He was the top Year 9 boy in athletics. He is on the student council. He loves drama and music. Anthony says; “My favourite thing about Wellington High School is that it has an attractive environment where students can excel freely. Alice does all the Year 9 options and activities and enjoys the challenge of getting around the multi level school. Alice says; “Wellington High is a lot like my old school. I really like drama and food tech. I did bowls & archery in Term 1. I have made new friends. Coeducation is pretty cool. What I like best is no uniforms. It makes everybody different.”

Premier A debating team, is active in the Shakespeare Society, won the most outstanding actor award in the New Zealand Sheilah Winn Shakespeare competition and was selected for the national Shakespeare in School’s group. He is part of the Peer Mediation team, is on the student council and is co-facilitator of the school’s branch of Amnesty International. He is sitting Scholarship in 4 subjects.Max says, “Wellington High School gives you many opportunities to follow your passion and to excel.”
Estere Dalton Year 10 Estere plays a lot of sport: netball, canoe polo, tennis and surfing. She loves dram  | Estere | a and has appeared on stage in the Shakespeare Society and Sheilah Winn Shakespeare performances. She does theatresports and debating. Her favourite subject is English. Estere says; “Wellington High School is full of cool and unique people. It’s got a really fun family atmosphere and there are always people to welcome you with open arms.”
